Many choices are available when choosing a provider for your skin care needs. There are many advertisements, impressive before and after photos, and low price offers. Salons and day spas claim to treat various skin diseases, and promise skin rejuvenation. Who can you trust? How can you be sure you’re seeing someone with the appropriate qualifications and knowledge to treat your skin? Here are some things you should look for:

1. A medical doctor trained and board certified in Dermatology by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). Certification by the AAD means that the Dermatologist has graduated from an accredited medical school, that he has completed from 3 to 5 years of dermatology training and dermatological surgery, and has passed comprehensive written and oral examinations. You can do a bit of research to find out whether a prospective physician is board certified in Dermatology.  A Dermatologist performs treatment and surgery of the skin everyday, you may be confident that you are receiving care from an expert in his medical specialty.
2. Membership in the American Academy of Dermatology. This is a symbol of excellence in the field of Dermatology. Its members are certified by the AAD, are peer reviewed, and meet continuing education requirements.
3. Experience. A Dermatologist examines and provides treatment for the skin everyday for many years.  It is advantageous to find a dermatologist who has experience treating many different skin types. 
4. Recommendations from friends and relatives help patients choose a Dermatologist who have been able to successfully treat many others. 

Meet Our Doctor…Quan Nguyen, M.D.

Our medical director, Dr. Quan Nguyen, is a UCLA-trained and board-certified dermatologist and a laser surgeon. Dr. Nguyen received both his doctorate degree and dermatology training at the top-ranked UCLA School of Medicine.  Dr. Nguyen has a strong research background in skin cancer and laser surgery, and has published numerous scientific articles and textbooks. Currently, Dr. Nguyen is an assistant clinical professor at UCLA where he teaches other physicians and medical students.

Dr. Nguyen practices ADULT & PEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY and treats all diseases of the skin, hair, and nails such as acne, warts, moles, skin allergies, psoriasis, eczema, hair loss, and nail fungus. He specializes in SKIN CANCER SURGERYand performs Moh’s Micrographic Surgery, a well-known procedure for the optimal removal of skin cancer. He also specializes in COSMETIC DERMATOLOGY for the treatment of aging skin and skin imperfections. Dr. Nguyen has been performing laser skin surgery since 1993, and is known for his expertise and experience in performing surgery on many different skin types. He often lectures on the treatment of aging skin and has served as a consultant to cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies specializing in the development of skincare products. Dr. Nguyen provides a chance for his patients to speak freely about their skin concerns. He clearly explains the procedures and gives straightforward answers on the results you can expect. Dr. Nguyen is the medical director for two Dermatology & Laser Centers, in Fountain Valley and Laguna Niguel. At the centers we provide complete skin care for men, women, and children. We have state-of-the-art laser equipment in our facilities. These laser systems are used to remove tattoos and treat a variety of conditions including facial veins, birthmarks, and age spots. Our erbium:yag lasers are used for cosmetic facial skin resurfacing, to treat acne scars, wrinkles, and sun-damaged skin.

We have estheticians on staff, trained by our doctor to perform facials for the treatment of acne and sun-damaged skin. Included in the treatment is a chemical peel, a wonderful exfoliation of the skin that helps dry acne, smooth away superficial wrinkles, and even the skin tone. Facial treatments are beneficial as a regular regimen for men, women, and teenagers. Our patients are pleased with their healthy, glowing complexion.
